Funtime’s inaugural Saturday night proved to be quite feverish for all the teams in attendance. Team JF’s Pouch won the first round, Glug-a-lug, after being in training most of the day. They had no qualms about pouring beer on themselves, all having wipe-clean heads. But it was Team High Kicking Woopla who stole an early lead with a behemoth of a balloon giraffe that wobbled in at an outrageous 91”. Balloon engineers feel that this must be around the upper limit for free-standing giraffes in the current conditions. The main event of the evening was a titanic clash between Mr Norm (JF’s Pouch) and Mr Sam (Norfolk & Chance) in the Tower of Strength. Both towers, driven on by their rabid team mates, smashed all previous records. Mr ‘stone face’ Sam maintained a Zen-like calm, whilst Mr Norm’s agonies crackled around him like an electrical storm. But of our twin towers, it was Mr Norm who dodged the aeroplane, and triumphed with an astonishing time of 10:33:18, surely a record that will stand the test of time. Heart felt commiserations must go to Mr Sam, who came so very close to victory.
The outright winners of the sixth Funtime were JF’s Pouch by 2 points from Norfolk & Chance, proving that Lancastrian men aren’t entirely useless, a commonly-held belief. Funsize Funtime proved to be very popular with those who like to drink alcohol and play games behind a velvet rope.
